an interesting e-mail

Something strange happened the other day.  On my main e-mail account I got an e-mail about this blog, from what I originally thought was a spam e-mail address.  I’m not really sure how that happened, considering I don’t think that e-mail is tied to this at all.  After getting over the initial excitement of actually having someone reading this and asking me about it, I read the e-mail.  This is what it said :

“why do you write what you write?  everything seems so sad.  cheer me up a bit.”

I’m not really sure who sent it, but I figured why not answer it anyways. I don’t really want to e-mail them back because I’m pretty sure it’s a spam account.  So why not post it here?  How exciting!  Here is my response :

I don’t know.  Why do I think the things I think?  I only write the thoughts that I have that I consider the most important.  I have always believed that writers tell the truth by lying.  I hope that I do this whenever I write a short story or a poem.  I hope that everything I write contains some truth.  If it doesn’t, then by definition I have failed as a writer.

And why so sad?  Life is sad.  Cheer yourself up.  I’ve got my own self to worry about.
